Home Grown Local Business People
Wed 06 Jun 2018
One of the most enjoyable and satisfying things about working in the Economic Development Office at Shoalhaven Council, is marveling at the fascinating stories of home grown local business people.
Many are launched from very humble beginnings and progress to become incredibly successful enterprises.
The lessons learnt along the way are invaluable to all of us.
One such story is that of Norm Mogg, from Fine Line Painting and On Line Recruitment.
Many great ideas are born on the road. Driving long distances from one place to another, you are your own captive audience.
Norm was motoring back home to the Shoalhaven from a major painting job near Muswellbrook, lamenting how hard it was to recruit labour in the Hunter Valley.
He hit upon the idea of forming his own recruitment company. It was here that On Line Labour Hire company was born.
Now known as On Line Labour Recruitment, the companyhas 8 office staff at South Nowra and has workers deployed across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
Norm's second business Fine Line Painting is a domestic, commercial and industrial painting company has significantly diversified.
Fine Line Painting now employs a dozen staff, many of them currently working on the major expansion of the South Nowra Correctional Centre.
The recruitment hire division currently has around 200 people on its books. In addition to NSW it has also expanded into Queensland and Victoria.
Norm says theeconomic driver of the expansion into Victoria is a series of public works infrastructure projects, in and around Melbourne.
The business has grown at such a rate that plans are in the process of being drawn up to expand the South Nowra headquarters.
Away from the office, Norm's passion is motor sport, where he has achieved considerable ' on track ' success.
Norm is one of a group of people who have been working away behind the scenes, to try and make sure the proposed Shoalhaven Motor Racing complex becomes a reality.
He says one only has to look at the economic boost Wakefield Park has provided for Goulburn, and Winton for Northern Victoria. He argues similar benefits will unfold in the Shoalhaven, if the project goes ahead.
