SafeWork NSW - Southern District News - Nowra District Office - June 2019

SafeWork participated in the South Coast Safety Conference in June. Over 150 people registered to attend 16 presentations and workshops and received information and advice from 17 exhibitors. Information was provided on the effects of serious injury, safety leadership, easy to do WHS, identifying and managing hazardous manual tasks, managing at risk young workers (supported by local Business Chamber Young Entrepreneurs of the Year Award winner), workers compensation and recovery at work, workplace benchmarks and innovation in workplace safety including drugs and alcohol, wearable technology to separate people and plant, working safely at heights in the defence force, health and wellbeing workshops which included mindfulness, work preparedness, stretching, men’s health, and machine guarding.

The event was attracted small and medium businesses, national companies, safety professionals, local council safety teams, industry association representatives, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, government, training and education, builders and aged care / social services professionals. Businesses attended from the Far South Coast, Southern Highlands, the Illawarra and the Shoalhaven area.

The event was well received with:

  • 100% surveyed strongly agreed or agreed that the presentations helped identify areas where they can make workplace improvements
  • 93% surveyed strongly agreed or agreed they have gained skills/knowledge to apply in their workplace
  • 93 % surveyed strongly agreed or agreed that the information was relevant their business
