The Royal Australian Navy operational base at Nowra will be better serviced with the NSW Government announcing $4.95 million from the Growing Local Economies fund to provide specialist companies with the tools they need to support service aircraft.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro, Member for Kiama Gareth Ward and Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock said new roads, electricity, water and communication connections will expand the Albatross Aviation Technology Park, which supports HMAS Albatross, the home of Australia’s naval air squadrons.

“The enabling infrastructure will create nine new industrial lots in the Albatross Aviation Technology Park, seven with access to the taxiway, increasing the number and variety of workshops providing support to the Navy,” Mr Ward said.

“The NSW Government is taking action to provide businesses with the infrastructure they need to succeed, allowing them to focus on expanding their operations and creating new jobs.

Our state recently recorded an unemployment rate of 3.9 per cent, the lowest since monthly records began in February 1978, which is proof our vision for NSW is making our State the best place to live and get a job. This is a stunning result and this means more families and individuals are getting ahead.”

Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock said expanding industrial areas by enabling new lots will generate additional business for local suppliers, which will create new jobs and encourage investment, strengthening the Shoalhaven economy.

“Supporting our local defence industry increases our advanced manufacturing capability, opening the door to new export opportunities and providing flow on benefits to local supply chains.

“It is due to hard work and investment by the State Government that we have seen downward pressure on local unemployment figures. We as a government are determined to create more job opportunities across the South Coast by supporting local business and encouraging growth.” Mrs Hancock said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the $500 million Growing Local Economies Fund is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to the delivery of infrastructure projects which improve the productivity and competitiveness of the state under Restart NSW.
